My background and mission
Kristine van der Hoeven, M.Ed.
I am a passionate and energetic educator, people-connector, and entrepreneur who is driven to improve lives. After working in both private industry and public education for twenty-five + years around the world, I found my true calling is working with students. I launched College Nugget to help students and their families through the college planning and application process. My mission for every student and family is to help students find success in their high school years so they can apply to colleges that are the best fit for them and make a smooth transition to this important stage of life.
The college application process can be stressful for both students and parents. College is one of the biggest decisions and investments many families will make in their life. Having worked with thousands of students as a high school teacher and College and Career Readiness Director in Mercer Island for 13+ years, visited over 50 colleges in the U.S. and Europe, and supported many students through the process of applying to college, I realize there is not a one-size-fits-all approach.
I get to know students and help them expand the self-awareness needed to undertake a rewarding approach to college search and admission. I also recognize that students come to me with a variety of backgrounds, learning styles, and motivations, and am experienced helping a range of students from high achievers to strong and steady ones, as well as students who may struggle with learning challenges. I love working with a variety of students and helping them reach their individual potential.
